Mana Wahine Lei • Meet Katherine: A vibrant, lovely, cheerful, strong & brave woman. She’s a single mom of two teens, personal trainer at the YMCA & para educator with the Yakima School District.
Katherine ebbs and flows, living with Mitral Valve Regurgitation (MVR) & is pictured here with a heart monitor to test the electrical system of her heart. She has been experiencing headaches, dizziness, breathlessness , fatigue, changes in heart rate & chest palpitations which increased recently. She has navigated these things with tenacity & care for herself that is to be recognized 🎖️and she’s one to be celebrated. (You got this, girl! 👊🏽🌱❤️)
It has been a tough road with the ins and outs of navigating doctor’s appointments, moments wondering if her life was at risk, self care - listening to her ‘gut’ & placing herself in a position where she was able to get care earlier than was originally planned. This decision gave her a better quality of life, albeit a still difficult road, but she will know more answers when monitor results are available. We’ve cried, laughed & prayed on work breaks discussing the progression of this chapter of her story.
Katherine would like to remind anyone having these symptoms* or knowing anyone who has them to listen to your body and get help, as MVR is hereditary (maternal side) & can go undiagnosed for too long.
Thank you for reading Katherine’s story & considering this lei. ❤️🌱
